Meal prepping simply makes life easier. If you have a full day of work, all you have to do is open your fridge and grab the appropriate amount of containers and you’re out the door. There’s no rushing in the morning or the evening, and there’s no stress as to what to eat throughout the day to stay on track.
Well first, sit down and map out your week. Factor in meetings, practices, family/friend meals, travel times, etc. Find out which meals you will be able to actually cook at the time and which meals you will need ready to go.
Secondly, think about what kind of food you want that week. Maybe it’s something you haven’t had in awhile, maybe it’s your go-to meals, whatever it is, think about the ingredients you are going to need and make a list. Make sure you factor in snacks, dressings and the basics (milk, eggs, bread, etc).
Then, it’s time to shop! Go to the store and but all the goodies. Side note: If you plan this accordingly and efficiently, you will not be breaking the bank with meal prepping, you will eat everything and you’ll be satisfied with all that you’ve purchased.
Lastly, it’s time to put it all together! You can either get really detailed by dividing each and everyday up for every single meal, all the way down to your 3pm snack. OR you can decide as you go, giving you a bit more of flexibility as to what you’re craving that day. It’s totally up to you and what you think fits your life better.
Whenever I’m prepping my meals ahead of time I usually roast a batch of veggies, cook some rice and bake two chicken breasts and one piece of fish. Then I divide these up into appropriate containers, put it in the fridge, and BAM, it's done!
